Somerset

28 Market Place is the reworking of a cluster of listed buildings whose facades contribute to the historic street frontage of Somerton. Behind these frontages was an adhoc collection of subdivided, dilapidated and uninhabitable courtyard spaces.

Through careful editing of the existing plan (see red ares for demolition on the plan right) the courtyard was cleared of modern interventions to crate a new covered, light filled, core to link the perimeter listed historic buildings.

The creation of this internal courtyard, linking each of the perimeter historic structures, provides a series of interconnected spaces - a wine shop, an ice cream parlour and a bakery which now connect the street to the courtyard.
