Forde Abbey

Somerset

Sitting atop a flood plain, this 12th Century cistercian abbey is an example of pure conservation. The Abbey itself is a Grade 1 listed, scheduled ancient monument, as is the flood plain. This whole site requires careful management and care.

Thread are entrusted to work with the abbey and trustees on a yearly programme of repairs and conservation, along with forward planning for the next 5 years. This delicate work at all times must be careful of the archeology of the abbey.

Works include:

  • A quinquennial survey

  • To create teams, organise and project manage the work done.

  • Identify problems and enact repairs - for example implementing the fire detection system housed in historic fabric.

  • Installing the septic tank and new foul drainage into the Registered Landscape and flood plain.
