Heatherton Park Studios
Wellington
In a prominent position outside Wellington, Somerset, sits a 1950s agricultural shed. An early Thread project, director Claire was approached by a former employer - art restorer Tim Everett - to turn this disused, asbestos clad agricultural shed into a live/work unit, which could also house valuable artworks.
The project needed to be sustainable and maintenance free - using ground source energy, triple glazed windows and rain water gathering, all through a minimum number of construction processes.
Key to the project - keep the existing structure, only strengthening where needed.
The final build achieved the full brief and now houses an eclectic mix of fine art period interiors, a floating studio accommodation and this simple form, minimal material palette conversion, which support the client collections and robust working studio requirements.
